Junior basketball forward Brady Manek is the essence of a quality student athlete.

As one of the leading scorers on the men’s Oklahoma basketball team, the 6-foot, 9-inch Manek has proven his skills on the basketball court, and he is also proven to be a star student.

For the second straight season, the junior from nearby Harrah, Oklahoma, has been named to the 2020 Academic All-Big 12 First Team. First-team members must maintain a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.20 or better.

To qualify for Academic All-Big 12, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulatively or of the two previous semesters and have participated in 20 percent of their team’s scheduled events.

Manek is the Sooners’ second leading scorer this season with a 14.9 average through 28 games. That ranks seventh in the Big 12. He averages 6.9 rebounds per game and is one of the best three-point shooters in the conference, averaging 2.4 made threes per game.

He ranks 33rd on the Oklahoma career scoring list with 1,157 points, and his 182 career three-pointers ranks seventh in OU basketball history.

Manek has a cumulative GPA of 3.53 in his five-plus semesters as a University of Oklahoma student. During that time, he has been named to the President’s Honor Roll (4.00 GPA), twice to the Dean’s Honor Roll (3.50 to 3.99 GPA) and has been honored as a Student Scholar (3.00 cumulative GPA) five times and four times to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

This is the second academic honor Manek has received in the past week. A week ago, he was named one of 41 NCAA Division I men’s basketball players to a CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-District Team.
