Oklahoma basketball: Lady Sooners steal win in Bedlam round 1

Women’s Oklahoma basketball has experienced some hard knocks this season, but it’s victories like the one achieved against Oklahoma State on Wednesday that keeps the juices flowing in a positive direction.

The Sooners were facing an almost certain defeat, down by 13 points on the road with only two an a half minutes to play. Many teams would have just packed it in and  conceded the inevitable, but not this bunch.

The Lady Sooners mounted a nearly miraculous 16-1 run over the final 2:18 and literally seized victory from the jaws of defeat with a come-from-way-behind 77-75 win over their in-state rivals, the Cowgirls of Oklahoma State.

"“How many times am I gonna say ‘unbelievable,” Sooner head coach Sherri Coale said to reporters after the game. “I don’t think there is anything I can say that’s gonna give that basketball game the justice it deserves.”"

Here are the noteworthy numbers that tell the incredible story of the win Oklahoma stole in round one of 2020 Bedlam women’s basketball:

3.6 — Oklahoma State’s Vivian Gray, who led OSU with 22 points, missed a 15-point shot with 3.6 seconds to go that might have won the game for the Cowgirls.

4 — Three-pointers made by the Lady Sooners in the final two minutes to wipe out a 13-point deficit.

25 — True freshman Taylor Robertson scored a game-high 25 points, including 7 of 11 from behind the three-point line.

30 — Oklahoma didn’t reach 20 points in any of the first three quarters of the game, but outscored Oklahoma State 30-22 in the fourth quarter.

30 — The Lady Sooners committed 30 turnovers in the game, but the defensive effort was good enough to overcome their ball security problems.

46-26 — Oklahoma State outscored OU in the paint, 46-26.

73 — Four Sooner players (Taylor Robertson, Gabby Gregory, Ana Llanusa and Madi Williams) accounted for 73 of Oklahoma’s 77 points. Llanusa had 20 points, Williams 18 and Gregory contributed 10.
