Holding down the No. 6 spot is Charles “Bud” Wilkinson, who led Oklahoma to three national championships and 14 conference championships in 17 seasons as head coach. During the Wilkinson era at OU, Sooner teams put together winning streaks of 47 and 31 games. The 47-game streak still stands as an NCAA record and likely will never be broken.

Wilkinson was 31 years old when he took over the head-coaching duties at Oklahoma in 1947. Over 16 seasons he compiled a record of 145-29-4 and is the third winningest coach in Sooner football history

Between 1948 and 1958, Wilkinson’s Sooner teams were undefeated four times and did not lose more than one game in six other seasons. His teams also went 12 consecutive seasons (1947-58) without losing a conference game.
