Score one for the safeties

Despite showed improvement, there were still several pundits who were quick to point to both Delarrin Turner-Yell Turner-Yell and Pat Fields as potential weak links in the chain that is the Sooner secondary.

That simply wasn’t the case against Texas, when both guys made play after play to help get the Sooners off the field.

The pair were particularly effective against the Texas screen game, which gashed Oklahoma in both meetings with the Longhorns a year ago.

Turner-Yell and Fields were screaming downhill every time Texas would show tunnel screen, ready to pounce on opposing ball carriers.

They were the first team to slow down Texas’ Devin Duvernay all year after he caught eight or more passes in each of the Longhorns’ first five games.

These two were also effective in helping make sure the big Texas wide receivers didn’t have the same kind of field day they had become accustomed to against the Sooners in the previous two meetings.
