Jalen Hurts was up and down

Hurts has been the best player in the country through the first five weeks in most measurable statistical categories. That talent was evident at times against Texas as he accounted for 366 total yards (235 passing, 131 rushing) and four total touchdowns.

There were some other points, however, where Hurts looked vulnerable for the first time this year. Texas did a great job mixing up its coverages and confusing Hurts, who struggled to get through his progressions in certain situations, particularly third down where the Sooners were just 3-of-12. He also had two killer red zone turnovers that kept this game close despite a dominant first half from Oklahoma.

Even when he wasn’t at his best, he was still good enough to become the third different OU quarterback to beat Texas in the last three years, but one can’t help but wonder if other teams are going to take a look at some of the things Texas did against Hurts and try to use them in the future.
