Oklahoma football: Five unforgettable OU-Texas battles of the last 50 years

There have been many memorable games in the 114-year history of the Oklahoma football rivalry with the Texas Longhorns. The 114 games between this two longtime rivals is the most by the Sooners against any opponent.

Over that time, there have been blowouts as well as one-point heartbreakers. There have been shutouts on both sides, especially in the early years of the rivalry, and five games have ended all square.

Texas has won 62, or 54 percent, of 114 games in the series, with the Sooners coming out on the winning side 47 times.

The Longhorns fashioned a record of 30-20 in the first 50 years of the series and were 29-21 against Oklahoma in the second half of the 20th century. Things have been different in, the current century, however. Since 2000, the Sooners are 13-7 against the Longhorns.

Last year’s Red River Showdown in the Cotton Bowl, won by Texas 48-45 with a late field goal, was about as dramatic a finish as any game in the series.
