Kansas came out firing against No. 6 Oklahoma and took an early 7-0 lead on Saturday before Jalen Hurts and the Sooners took control, scoring 42 unanswered points en route to a 45-20 victory.

The Sooners improved to 5-0 on the season and set the stage for a major top-15 showdown with prime rival Texas in the Cotton Bowl next Saturday.

After forcing a punt — only the seventh by OU all season — on the Sooners opening possession, Kansas drove 98 yards in nine plays to score the first points against the Sooners in the first quarter this season. It also marked the first time all season OU had played from behind.

The Jayhawk advantage lasted just a minute and a half, however, as Hurts led Oklahoma on a 77-yard drive that Trey Sermon finished off with a two-yard touchdown run.

Oklahoma held the Kansas offense to 208 total yards for the first three quarters before allowing 152 yards and a couple of scores in the final quarter with largely backups in the game.

The win was the Sooners’ 15th straight over Kansas and 22nd consecutive true road victory, the second longest in college football history. Oklahoma also owns the longest streak in true road games at 25 (1953-58).

Here are a dozen more notable numbers that help tell the story of this game:

5 — Touchdowns scored this season by junior-college transfer running back Rhamondre Stevenson. He has scored a rushing TD in all five OU games this season, including a 61-yard touchdown run against Kansas.

5 of 7 — Touchdowns scored by the Oklahoma on seven trips inside the red zone against Kansas.

6 — Each team was successful six times in converting 3rd downs: OU on six of nine; KU on 6 of 14.

8 for 89 — The Sooners were called for eight penalties totaling 89 yards, one of which took a long punt return for a touchdown by CeeDee Lamb off the board.

8.3 — Yards per offensive play by Oklahoma in the game, their lowest amount of the season.

9:51 — Time of possession for Kansas in the first quarter.

13 — Thirteen different Sooners caught 20 passes on Saturday, averaging 13.9 yards per catch.

38 — Oklahoma had a first-and-goal from the Kansas seven-yard line in the third quarter. Following a couple of penalties and a 20-yard loss on a reverse, however, the Sooners ended up losing 38 yards and were forced to punt on fourth-and-goal from their own 44-yard line.

137 — Rushing yards by Kansas’ sensational sophomore running back Pooka Williams. No other Jayhawk runner had more than five yards on the ground in the game. Williams rushed for 252 yards in the game a year ago in Norman.

277/268 — Split between passing yards and rushing yards by Oklahoma against Kansas for a total of 545 yards of offense.

284 — Total yards by Jalen Hurts against Kansas, including 4 touchdowns (two rushing and two passing).

34,402 — Announced paid attendance for Saturday’s game at Booth Memorial Stadium in Lawrence.
