Iowa State (1-1)
Last week:  Lost to Iowa 18-17
This week: vs ULM

The Cyclones are supposed to be one of the better teams in the conference this year – and still might very well be – but they haven’t played like one through two games.

Iowa State needed three overtimes to dispatch FCS Northern Iowa in the first game of the season, then fumbled away a chance at a marquee win at home against Iowa with College Gameday in town.

Yes, the game against Iowa was a rivalry tilt marred by rain delays that may have exacerbated the sloppy play, but I think it’s safe to say the Cyclones haven’t quite lived up to the hype so far in what is expected to be the best season yet under dynamo coach Matt Campbell.

It’s not that the Cyclones have been terrible, they have just looked average so far. This week’s home game against ULM will be a chance to open things up on offense and gain some confidence as Iowa State irons things out before conference play.

We’ll likely see Brock Purdy put up some big numbers with receivers Tarique Milton andDeshaunte Jones this week to help fine tune some things before a huge showdown with Baylor on Sept. 28.
