Who leads the Sooners in sacks and why?

CR: Sophomore defensive end Ronnie Perkins led Oklahoma with five sacks in 2018 and was third on the team with eight tackles for loss. He also was credited with four quarterback hurries.

Perkins played in all 14 games for the Sooners his freshman season, but he started only seven. He is projected as a starter on the defensive line for new defensive coordinator Alex Grinch, and with a year of experience under his belt and more playing time in 2019, Perkins should have even more opportunities to put pressure on the quarterback. With the Sooners expected to be more aggressive on defense under Grinch, that plays well for more sack opportunities for Perkins.

Look for junior linebacker Kenneth Murray to be a close second in the sack category for the Sooners in 2019. The Sooners’ leading tackler last season also was credited with four quarterback sacks.

CD: Jalen Redmond battled blood clot issues last year causing him to miss most of the season, but Oklahoma football fans got a short look at just how good Redmond could be in his short time on the field. Redmond is big, fast and explosive and exactly the kind of athlete that can thrive in Alex Grinch’s scheme.

It would be great to see him unleashed and allowed to attack opposing quarterbacks. So long as he manages to say healthy he could ver easily end up with double digit sacks.
