Oklahoma football: 5 best quarterbacks OU will face in 2019
D’Eriq King, Houston
The Sooners saw a little bit of this 5-foot-11 speedster as a freshman when he was lining up at receiver for the Cougars in 2016, but since then King has developed into a full-fledged nightmare to defend.
He missed four games last year with an injury, but still accounted for a 63.5 percent completion percentage, 167 quarterback rating, 2,982 passing yards, 674 rushing yards and 50 total touchdowns. He averaged more points scored per game than the Sooners’ own Kyler Murray. He also only threw eight interceptions during that time.

Ask Texas Tech fans what they thought about King last year. He lit the Red Raiders up for 431 passing yards, 47 rushing yards, six total touchdowns and no interceptions.
King is already gaining traction with some draft pundits as a potential dark horse to climb up the board through the year. Worse yet, he’ll certainly have the showdown against Oklahoma circled as a chance to shred a highly-ranked opponent on their home field in prime time with no other college football game on to compete against.
King over Ehlinger might be considered a bit of a surprise – some will probably call it homerism considering this is an Oklahoma site – but this is by no means a knock against Ehlinger as you can see with our glowing review of the Longhorns’ signal caller on the previous page, it’s just a testament to how high we are on King and how much of a threat we belive he poses to the Sooner defense.
Add in new head coach Dana Holgerson, who helped devise the game plan that scorched the Sooners for 59 points last season, and you have a tough challenge for Alex Grinch in his first game as the Sooners defensive coordinator.
