Oklahoma football is waiting on word about Tre Norwood‘s lower leg injury and hoping for the best, but must start making plans for the worst.

Tre Norwood apparently went down early in the week with an undisclosed injury and has been on crutches and out of practice since it occurred, causing Multiple sources to speculate that it could be an ACL tear.

The junior defensive back is one of the most experienced players in the Oklahoma secondary. He became stater at corner during his freshman season, then moved to nickel corner last year to relieve the struggling Brendan Radley-Hiles in the West Virginia game and held the spot all the way through the Sooners’ run to the college football playoff.

His injury would raise even more question marks in an already-murky Oklahoma secondary.

It likely means the Sooners will have to depend even more heavily on Radley-Hiles, who had already been competing for playing time at the position and and would probably require a safety or corner to move over to nickel to give the team depth. Robert Barnes, who had to sit out through spring ball with an injury, seems like a good candidate to move inside, but we could also see redshirt freshman Miguel Edwards and true freshman Jeremiah Criddell get a look at the spot should Grinch decide to pull the trigger and move them.

As for Norwood, the Sooners are clearly hoping for the best possible outcome and to get him back on the field during the 2019 season, but luckily for him, he does still have a redshirt to burn should the Sooners find out the worst. He would return next year as a redshirt junior.
