Creed Humphrey – redshirt sophomore center – Remington and Outland

The team’s lone returning starter on the offensive line, the Sooners need a big season out of Humphrey if they are going to get where they want to go. He has quickly gone from fighting for a starting job last year to a potential team captain in 2019.

Handicapping his chances: The Outland Trophy seems like a far reach for Humphrey not because of his talent level, but rather the position he plays on the field. Centers don’t attract the same kind of attention as defensive tackles and those prototypical book-end left tackles on the offensive side of the ball. Humphrey is surrounded by four other linemen which can sometimes hide his great work inside.

No Oklahoma player has ever won the Remington award – given annually to college football’s best center – but Humphrey looks like he’s got just as good a chance as anyone in the country. He was a road grater for the Sooners in the middle last season and will probably attract not only All American attention, but the gaze of NFL scouts by the end of the season. If he stays healthy it would be a shock if he isn’t at least a finalist for this one.
