5. Jason White

It may have been necessity that took Jason White from a dual-threat quarterback with run-first tendencies into a one of the best pure pocket passers in the school’s history. After blowing both ACLs in his first two snakebitten seasons, he had no choice but to adapt.

But adapt he did. White’s last two years at Oklahoma were breathtaking as he broke most of the Oklahoma football passing records set by predecessor Josh Heupel. White finished his Oklahoam career with 7,922 yards passing, 81 touchdowns and a 152.7 career passer rating. He also took the Sooners to back-to-back national title game appearances, one Big 12 championship and was the first Sooner quarterback in school history to win the Heisman Trophy.

Injuries eventually caught up with White. His NFL career never got off the ground due to multiple ailments incurred in college, but those who remember him in his prime will tell you he threw quite possibly the best deep ball of any Oklahoma quarterback in school history.  He also went 2-0 as a starter against Texas, a mark of success for any Sooner quarterback.

These top five spots are separated by razor-thin margins and there’s a serious argument to be made for Jason White to be above several of the players that follow him.
