A shootout 66-59 win over Texas Tech

When Baker Mayfield showed up to the home of his former team donning a “Traitor” t-shirt Texas Tech fans had made the previous year, Sooner fans should have known they were in for a special night.

Still, even in their wildest fantasies OU faithful couldn’t have predicted 590 yards, seven touchdowns and 66 points from their quarterback in one of the most prolific quarterback duels of all time.

Mayfield outlasted Texas Tech’s Patrick Mahomes in a shootout for the ages. Neither offense could be stopped, making every Oklahoma possession matter even more. In a hostile environment with no margin for error Mayfield was as close to perfect as a quarterback can be, rising to every single occasion and obliterating records left and right in one of the most impressive single-game performances in Sooner history.

While OU fans had to leave the game with a nasty feeling in the pit of their stomach about the defense, there was no denying that they had a quarterback ready to bail them out of any bad situation and Mayfield had the last laugh against his former coach, school and what can be a downright nasty fan base.
