Oklahoma baseball ended the regular season with a split in a rare Friday doubleheader, but with a highly satisfying series win over Texas.

The Sooners hammered the Longhorns 13-0 in game one of Friday’s doubleheader, giving OU its third series win in the last three trips to Austin and its first back-to-back win in a series at Texas since 1997, according to the OU athletic department.

Oklahoma banged out 15 hits and three home runs, all of the multiple run variety, off of five Texas pitchers in the first game of the twin bill, powering the Sooners to their largest margin of victory ever over their Red River rivals in baseball.

The Longhorns rebounded in the nightcap, claiming a 6-4 victory to avoid a series sweep. The Texas win prevented the Sooners from reaching the .500 level in the Big 12. Oklahoma ended the 2019 conference season with an 11-13 record and 33-21 overall.

By winning the earlier game on Friday, though, the Sooners assured that the Longhorns would finish in the basement in the Big 12 standings after winning the regular-season title just a year earlier. That may have been the biggest story line of the weekend in this longtime rivalry series.

Senior third baseman Brylie Ware went four for four at the plate and scored three runs in the first game on Friday and added three more hits and scored three more times in the second game to lead the Oklahoma attack on the day. He hit a home run in both games.

Sophomore first-sacker Tyler Hardman clubbed a three-run homer in the opener, his 12th of the season.

Second baseman Connor McKenna and catcher Brady Lindsly also hit fence-clearing blasts in the Sooners 13-0 win.

Left-handed starter Levi Prater worked six innings in game one and was credited with his seventh win of the season. Freshman Ben Abram started game two for the Sooners and was knocked out after recording just four outs. He suffered the loss, dropping his season record to 6-4.

The series win over the Longhorns gave Oklahoma three series wins over eight Big 12 opponents this season.

The Sooners will be out of action until next Wednesday, when they will compete in the 2019 Big 12 Championship tournament. Oklahoma’s opponent in the opening round will be determined after conference play is ended on Sunday.
