Oklahoma softball: Sooner pitchers dominant in another 5-game weekend sweep

Oklahoma softball pitchers gave up two runs and a combined 10 hits against five different teams in running the Sooners’ record to 25-2 with a five-game weekend sweep in the City of Angels.
The third-ranked Sooners were less than gracious visitors to four Los Angeles area teams, plus Illinois out of the Big Ten, posting three shutouts, including a no-hitter, and outscoring their five opponents 58-2. OU was one of five teams taking part in a three-day West Coast tournament hosted by UC Santa Barbara and Loyola Marymount.
Junior left-handed starter Giselle Juarez was credited with two of the five Oklahoma wins, blanking Loyola Marymount 14-0 with a no-hit, complete game performance in one of two games on Thursday, and came back on Saturday, going six innings and striking out 12 in an 11-1 victory over Illinois.
Junior Mariah Lopez also picked up a couple of wins, working a total of 10 1/3 innings, allowing just two hits and striking out 19.

Juarez. a transfer from Arizona State, and Lopez own 21 of the Sooners’ 25 wins this season. Juarez improved to 11-0 for the season and Lopez is 10-1.
The offensive heroes for the Sooners in the weekend sweep in Los Angeles were senior third baseman Sydney Romero, sophomore right fielder Joceyln Alo and senior left fielder Falepolima Aviu.
Romero hit .500 (11 for 22 at the plate), with five runs batted in and two home runs, giving her nine for the season. Alo went 8 for 18 with 11 RBI and a pair of home runs, and Aviu was 9 for 18 with eight RBI.
The Sooners return home this coming week, with a mid-week game hosting North Texas at Marita Hynes Field and then head to Lubbock, Texas, for their Big 12 opener at Texas Tech. The Red Raiders are a half game ahead of OU in the Big 12 standings, sporting a 26-2 overall record
