Oklahoma football: National media swarms Norman for OU pro day
Carson Meier
The Sooners’ fullback isn’t a name burning up draft boards, but Meier possesses the kind of skills that could prove valuable for an NFL team.
He can play h-back or tight end and can block and catch the ball out of the backfield. He’ll likely be catching passes from Murray, giving him maximum exposure to a group of people who might not know much about him.
Though Meier might not end up being drafted, it could be a chance to audition for a spot as a free agent following the April draft and – if nothing else – get him a spot as a special teams or practice squad player.
The Oklahoma football program
Make no mistake about it, a huge pro day like this one is as much an opportunity for the Lincoln Riley to show off as it is for his players.
Oklahoma coaches are clearly using this as recruiting fodder, illustrated best by assistant coach Cale Gundy’s recent tween that appears to be throwing some shade at other, lower-profile pro days coming up in the area.
Wether it’s a chance for back-to-back No. 1 overall picks at quarterback, a wealth of offensive line talent or just a look at the gorgeous, state-of-the-art facilities in Norman, this much positive attention on the Oklahoma football program is always a good thing when it comes to the future and you know a master recruiter like Lincoln Riley is always trying to think of ways to maximize its effect.
It will be interesting to see how this much attention positively impacts the Sooners’ recruiting efforts for 2020 and beyond.
