Oklahoma football: Red River Rivalry spills onto social media
Oklahoma football never has any love lost for the Texas Longhorns and thanks to hot recruiting battles, the Red River Rivalry is really an year-round affair.
As the Sooners and Longhorns prepare to do battle on the Hardwood this weekend, OU coaches have been trading jabs with UT staff as both sides welcome in high-level recruits during the spring evaluation period.
The always-smoldering feud seemed to flare up this past week over five-star California running back Kendall Milton.
Milton is the NO. 2 overall running back in the 2020 class, according to Rivals and has offers from every blueblood program including Alabama, Georgia, USC, Texas and Oklahoma. He first visited the Sooners this past week before making a trip down to Austin.

Shortly after the trip, Oklahoma recruiting analyst Chip Viney took what appeared to be a shot at Texas’ lack of recent running back success with the following tweet.
Oklahoma running backs coach Jay Bulware got in on the fun, posting a graphic from the university highlighting the bounty of successful running backs to come through the Oklahoma football program over the past few years.

While both of those contained subtle knocks on the University of Texas’ lack of running back success over the past few season, it was after Milton posted a picture of his visit to UT that Viney had a less-veiled comment.
Of course, Viney is referring to the Sooners’ recent dominance over the league. The Oklahoma football program has won four-straight Big 12 titles, the most consecutive Power Five conference titles since Florida accomplished the same feat in the 1990s. Oklahoma’s 12 Big 12 titles also dwarfs every other program in the league, with Texas sitting second at three.
With Oklahoma football hosting a junior day this weekend, Sooners’ coaches have moved on to more recruiting based social media posts, but this was far from the first social media spat between the two coaches and will not likely be the last.
October can’t get here soon enough.
