Tanner Mordecai has the inside track for the starting job?

Mordecai, a Waco Midway High School product and will-be redshirt freshman earned high praise from Lincoln Riley during workouts last summer and spent all season learning under the wing of Murray, even earning a little playing time in the Sooners’ win over FAU.

Riley told the Daily Oklahoman in July:

"“A lot of people told me about him before I saw him live for the first time last spring, but you see it, you kind of feel it, that he’s got a little something about him and our players sense that as well.”"

Mordecai is a winner. He took his high school team all the way to the state championship game his senior year in Texas. He Arm strength, release and athleticism are all measurable qualities, but leadership and being born a natural winner are hard to quantify.

Riley wouldn’t go as far as to name a starter for next year this early. That would be a ludicrous move considering the Sooners haven’t gone through spring football, much less fall camp. However, if Kendall got the sense that it was Mordecai’s job to lose this early in the process he might be cutting bait and looking elsewhere knowing he’s already spent three years in the system and can’t seem to get ahead.
