The offense is more than pulling its weight; it’s time now for the defense to hold up its end

To begin the season, there were concerns about how much of a drop off we would see in the Sooners’ explosive, high-output offense. Kyler Murray’s performance through four games has quickly allayed those concerns. That puts the onus squarely on Mike Stoops and the Oklahoma defense if the Sooners are to regroup and remain in contention for a fourth consecutive Big 12 title and a second consecutive appearance in the College Football Playoff.

When the Oklahoma offense is on the field more often and allowed more possessions than the opponent’s offense, there is a better than good chance the Sooners are going to win the game. That also is a function of the defense getting more third-down stops and scoreless possessions than what it gives up.

This did not happen on Saturday, and cannot be allowed to rear its ugly head again the remainder of the season. Otherwise, the Sooners will fall short of their season goals and leave a very dissatisfying taste in the mouths of OU football fans.
