The numbers for Saturday’s Oklahoma football game with visiting UCLA are largely in the Sooners’ favor.
To begin with, Oklahoma is playing at home, where the number of losses (10) in the past 19 seasons is fewer than the number of Big 12 championships the Sooners have won (11) over the same period of time.
The Sooners are ranked No. 5 or No. 6, depending on which major national poll you choose. UCLA is unranked and on the road, where it has lost 10 consecutive games and has been unsuccessful in two previous trips to Norman.
Dare we mention that the Bruins starting quarterback was injured in their season-opening game and is questionable to play on Saturday. If Wilson Speight, a graduate transfer from Michigan, is unable to go, the quarterback reins will be turned over to true freshman Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
Oklahoma is a 30-point favorite over UCLA, according to Las Vegas handicapper Sportsbookreview.com. To that point, the Sooners have scored 30 or more points in 24 of their last 25 games. They’ve won 23 of those games. The last time OU scored fewer than 30 points was last season in a 29-24 win over Texas in the Red River rivalry.
Here are some other numbers you might be interested in prior to game time on Saturday:
0 — The Sooners had no turnovers in last weekend’s win over Florida Atlantic. OU had just 13 turnovers total all last season (six interceptions, seven fumbles lost). that represented the second lowest total in OU football history.
0-2 — What UCLA’s record would be with a loss to Oklahoma on Saturday. That would be only the second time in the last 20 years that the Bruins have begun the season with two consecutive losses. The other time was 2010.
4 — Oklahoma was one of just four teams from a Power Five conference to record at least 300 yards rushing and 300 yards passing in Week 1.
6 — Jersey number of UCLA safety Adarius Pickett, who made 15 tackles last week against Cincinnati.
12 — Kickoff time (CT) for the game with UCLA. Fox will carry the broadcast with Gus Johnson doing play-by-play and Joel Klatt commentating.
19 — Jersey number of UCLA freshman running back Kazmeir Allen, who rushed for 103 yards last week, including a 74-yard touchdown run, in the Bruins’ 26-17 home loss to Cincinnati.
23-1 — Oklahoma’s record against unranked opponents as the No. 6-ranked team in the Associated Press poll (15-0 at home).
31 — Number of games UCLA has played historically against current Big 12 teams. The Bruins have played every Big 12 team at least once. Oklahoma (1-3) and Baylor (0-1) are the only Big 12 teams against which the Bruins have a losing record.
35-6 — Oklahoma’s record in the three-plus seasons Lincoln Riley has been on the Sooners’ coaching staff. That is the fourth best record in college football since the 2015 season.
65-32-3 — The Sooners all-time record against current teams in the Pac-12 Conference. Most of those wins are against Colorado, when the Buffaloes were members of the Big Eight and Big 12 Conference.
