No. 1 — Redshirt junior running back Rodney Anderson

Rodney Anderson missed all but two games of his first two seasons at Oklahoma because of season-ending injuries. He began the 2017 season as the Sooners’ No. 3 or 4 running back on the depth chart. By season’s end, however, the redshirt junior from the Houston, Texas, area was a clear No. 1.

Anderson collected 1,079 of his 1,161 rushing yards for 2017 over the final eight games of the season, capped off with a 201-yard rushing day in the Sooners’ 54-48 College Football Playoff loss to Georgia. Georgia came into its game with Oklahoma as the fifth-best defense among FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) teams.

In those final eight games last season, Anderson exceeded 100 yards rushing six times and ran for 10 touchdowns. He also caught 13 passes last season for 281 yards, including five receiving TDs.

Anderson is one of five Oklahoma Sooners named to the 2018 Preseason All-Big 12 First Team on offense.

The Sooners’ top running back heading into the 2018 season also has been named to the preseason watch list for the Doak  Walker Award, which recognizes the premier running back in college football.
