No. 3 – Quarterback Baker Mayfield, 2017 Heisman Trophy winner

Of all of the Oklahoma Heisman winners, Baker Mayfield can claim the biggest winning margin. His 2,398 total votes was more than 1,000 more than Stanford running back Bryce Love. Mayfield also received 657 more first-place votes than his closest challenger.

Mayfield finished his college career with the second-best passing efficiency rating among Football Bowl Subdivision teams (175.4), fourth in touchdown passes (131) and fifth in total offense (15,690).

His 2017 season was the best of his three years as the Oklahoma quarterback, completing a nation-best 70.5 percent of his pass attempts for 4,627 yards, 43 touchdowns and just six interceptions.  Mayfield broke the FBS single-season passing efficiency rating (198.9) that he had set just the year before, points responsible for (296) and yards per pass attempt (11.

Mayfield threw at least one TD pass in 40 consecutive games at Oklahoma and set an FBS record his final two seasons, throwing two or more TD passes in 27 consecutive games.

Mayfield will forever be remembered as a quarterback with a gunslinger mentality and catch-me-if-you-can scrambling ability, the kind of a leader who makes everyone around him play with fire and determination.

He may not be the greatest QB in Oklahoma’s glorious football history, but he for sure was the most fun to watch.
