Oklahoma football: Five opposing defensive jersey numbers to be mindful of in 2018
By Chip Rouse
No. 8, Duke Shelley, senior Kansas State cornerback
Kansas State is a team that always seems to play the Sooners tough (2015 and 2016 notwithstanding), and the prime reason for this is Bill Snyder’s teams are always well disciplined and don’t beat themselves. They play extremely physical and they are very good about forcing teams into mistakes and taking advantage of those mistakes.
Senior cornerback is arguably the top defender in the K-State defensive secondary this season. He was fourth in the Big 12 last season with 13 passes defended (11 breakups and two interceptions).
Last season against the Sooners, Shelly had five tackles (one for a loss) and an important breakup of one of Baker Mayfield’s downfield passes.
The Big 12 coaches voted Shelley honorable- mention All Big 12 last season. The Georgia native currently sits fourth on Kansas State’s career list for interception-return touchdowns (2).
