No. 2, Kris Boyd, senior Texas cornerback

Multiple college football preview magazines rank the Texas defense as one of the best, if not the best, in the Big 12 coming into the 2018 season. The defensive secondary has long been a strength on Texas football teams, and senior Longhorn cornerback Kris Boyd is a premier defender and cover corner.

Boyd led the Big 12 last season in passes defended, with two interceptions and 15 pass break-ups. He played in 13 games and started 12. Scouting reports list him as a physical corner with NFL talent. Boyd was fifth on the Longhorns with 57 tackles last season, but 13 of those came against one opponent. His 13-tackle performance in a 13-10 overtime loss to Oklahoma State last season was bar far his best defensive game of the season.

Against the Sooners last season, Boyd recorded six tackles. The year before in the Red River game, however, the Longhorn cornerback had nine tackles and recovered an OU fumble.

The Texas senior was a second-team All-Big 12 selection on defense a year ago.

Many folks, including yours truly, believe Texas will be Oklahoma’s toughest challenge this coming season, and Boyd could be a difference maker in that game.
