No. 15, Ben Banogu, senior TCU defensive end

TCU defensive end Ben Banogu began his collegiate football career at the University of Louisiana-Monroe. He transferred to TCU after his freshman season at ULM. After sitting out the 2016 season because of NCAA transfer rules, he started all 14 games for the Horned Frogs last season, and by the end of the season, his reputation as a disruptive force was preceding him.

Banogu , from McKinney, Texas,is a senior by class standing, but a junior based on eligibility. He ranked second in the Big 12 last season in quarterback sacks. He was credited with 8.5 sacks in 14 games, a half-sack better than Oklahoma’s “Obo” Okoronkwo. He also had seven quarterback hurries.

It wasn’t just quarterbacks that Banogu feasted on in the 2017 season. He also recorded 18.5 tackles for loss, one back of OU’s Okoronkwo but still good for third among Big 12 defensive players.

Banogu finished the 2017 campaign as the Big 12 Defensive Newcomer of the Year and first-team All-Big 12. At 6-feet, 4-inches and 249 pounds, he is a defensive force and edge nightmare to be reckoned with.

Head coach Gary Patterson is known for producing stellar defensive units, and Banogu is one of the best on a very good defensive team.
