The Sooners defeated Arizona State 2-0 in an early elimination game on Saturday, and then came back that evening to defeat and eliminate No. 2 seed Florida by the same score and remain alive to fight another day in the 2018 WCWS.

Not only was the score the same in both games, but so were the circumstances that led to the victories. Paige Parker pitched complete games in both wins and allowed only two hits each to both Arizona State and Florida in pitching back-to-back 2-0 shutouts.

Parker threw 76 pitches in the win over Arizona State and 104 pitches (70 strikes) in the night game against Florida. She struck out a combined 15 batters in the two games. The temperature was in the 90-degree range in both games, making Parker’s performance even more remarkable.

The four-time Big 12 Pitcher of the Year is now 10-1 in her career in the WCWS. The one loss came Thursday in a 2-0  opening round loss to Washington

Freshman Jocelyn Alo homered in both games, her 29th and 30th of the season, tying the all-time NCAA freshman Division I record for a single season, previously held by a former Sooner, Lauren Chamberlain (2012) and Kelly Majam of Hawaii (2010).

Alo, batting in her customary second position in the Sooner lineup, homered in the first inning on the first pitch she saw from Florida pitcher Kelly Barnhill.

Neither OU or Florida were able to generate much offense in the game. The Sooners managed just three hits. Florida produced two hits, both singles, coming in the first inning and the seventh inning.

The Sooners, now 57-4 overall and 2-1 in this year’s WCWS, have earned a rematch with No. 5 Washington, 51-8 and 2-0 in the WCWS, on Sunday. Oklahoma is faced with possibility of having to play two games again on Sunday.

The Sooners will have to defeat the Huskies twice on Sunday to play their way into the championship series, beginning on Monday, for a third consecutive year.
