Oklahoma golf: Sooners remain in lead in NCAA Norman Regional
By Chip Rouse
It was a long afternoon Tuesday for the men’s Oklahoma golf team at the NCAA Norman Regional, but at the end of the day, the Sooners held on to two-shot advantage.
The Sooners are at nine-under-par 587 after two rounds in the 54-hole tournament at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club, two shots better than second-place Pepperdine.
For the second day in a row, OU junior Blaine Hale led the Sooners, and all others in the regional tournament, with a three-under score of 69. Hale is eight-under par heading into the final round on Wednesday. His second-day round was not the low score of the day, but was good to remain atop the leaderboard after 36 holes.
Sooner sophomore Quade Cummins followed up his three-under-par 69 on Monday with an even-par 72 on Tuesday and is tied for seventh.

Only six strokes separates the five top teams entering the final round on Wednesday. The team from North Florida is at five-under par after 36 holes, in third place. Auburn and San Diego State are both at three-under, six shots back of the Sooners, tied for fourth.
All five Oklahoma golfers shot par or better on day two.
Oklahoma’s performance thus far is even more impressive, considering that the Sooners’ two best golfers, senior Grant Hirschman and junior Brad Dalke are both three-over par (75-72) after 36 holes.
Tuesday’s round was delayed almost two hours by rain and lightning. The Sooners had completed 17 holes when the bad weather hit.
The Norman Regional is one of six NCAA Regional tournaments being held this week. The top five teams (and the top individual not on one of those teams) qualify for the NCAA Championship, which will be held May 25-30 at the Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, the home course of No. 1-ranked Oklahoma State.
