No. 3 – Alvan Adams, Center, 1972-75

Alvan Adams was a two-time All-American and Big Eight Player of the Year while playing at Oklahoma. His number 33 is one of five basketball jersey numbers that have been retired at OU.

When he was drafted in 1975. leaving school early to declare for the NBA Draft, Adams was the third Oklahoma player all-time to be drafted in the first round, and the third-highest Oklahoma draft pick at No. 4 overall. Adams was selected by the Phoenix Suns, with whom he spent all 13 of his NBA seasons.

Adams averaged 14.1 points a game and 7.0 rebounds in his NBA career. His best season was in his rookie year in 1975-76. Adams averaged a career-high 19.0 points per game that season. He was named to the West squad in the NBA All-Star game that season.

Adams played in 78 playoff games in his career. His rookie season was the year that Phoenix lost to Boston in the NBA Finals.

The former Sooner hoops star, known in his career as “Double A” and “The Oklahoma Kid,” played his final NBA season in 1987-88.
