The reigning NCAA national champions are hosts of one of the six regional locations that will stage the preliminary rounds of the 2018 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship.
The Norman Regional will feature a 14-team field that will compete over 54 holes at Jimmie Austin Golf Club, home course of the Sooners, from May 14-16.
The top five teams in each of the regionals and the low-score individual not on one of the five qualifying teams will advance to the NCAA Championship May 25-30 at the Karsten Creek Golf Club in nearby Stillwater.
Oklahoma, ranked No. 4 in the nation in the latest GolfWeek/Sagarin Men’s Golf Rankings, is one of seven Big 12 teams that are headed to an NCAA Regional, but is the only Big 12 school hosting a regional.
No. 1-ranked Oklahoma State is the top seed in the Columbus (Ohio) Regional; Baylor is the No. 2 seed in the College Station (Texas) Regional; Texas, which tied with Oklahoma State for second place in the Big 12 Championship last week, is seeded third in the Raleigh (North Carolina) Regional, and TCU, Kansas and Iowa State are the six, eight and 10 seeds, respectively in the Stockton (California) Regional. The Kissimmee (Florida) Regional is the only site where a team from the Big 12 will not be in the field.
This will be Oklahoma’s eighth consecutive appearance in an NCAA Golf Regional. The Sooners finished fourth at the Stanford Regional last year, advancing to the NCAA Championship, where they defeated reigning national champion Oregon 3-1-1 in the match-play final.
Two other teams in the Norman Regional besides Oklahoma are ranked in the top 20 nationally (Auburn in No. 9 and Arkansas is No. 15). For a complete list of the teams in the Norman Regional and where they rank nationally, click here.
