No. 3 – DE Lee Roy Selmon, No. 1 overall pick, 1976 NFL Draft

One of three Oklahoma football players to be selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft (Sam Bradford in 2010 and Billy Sims in 1980 are the others; could Baker Mayfield become the 4th?), Lee Roy Selmon was the top pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Selmon spent his entire pro career, nine seasons, with the Buccaneers.

He was a seven-time All-Pro and was selected to six Pro Bowls. In 1979, Selmon’s fourth season in Tampa, he was named Associated Press NFL Defensive Player of the Year, and he has been honored by the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a member of the All-1980s NFL Second Team.

Selmon was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995, and his No. 63 jersey number was retired by the Buccaneers.

He suffered a massive stroke in early September 2011 and died two days later at the age of 56.
