A Big 12 Tournament loss to TCU might be lights out on the season for the women’s Oklahoma basketball team.

TCU widened a two-point lead after one quarter to 21 points late in the second stanza, an advantage the Sooners were unable to recover from, as the No. 5 Horned Frogs defeated No. 4 Oklahoma 90-83 in quarterfinal action Saturday in the Big 12 Women’s Tournament in Oklahoma City.

The Horned Frogs shot a sizzling 75 percent in the second quarter, making 9 of 12 shots, and 61 percent in the first half. TCU made nine of 15 three-point shots in the first half and took a 50-35 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Oklahoma fought back, going on a 15-0 run in the third quarter to cut the TCU lead to one, but that was as close as they would come. The Sooners trailed by four points with just under five minutes to go in the game, but missed seven consecutive shots after that.

Maddie Manning led the Sooners with 24 points, one shy of her career high. Shaina Pellington, the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, contributed 22 points, 16 coming in the second half.

TCU’s Amy Okonkwo, the Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year, scored a team-high 21 points as the TCU bench outscored the Sooners 41-7. Amber Ramierz added 19, including 9 of 10 from the free-throw line.

The loss leaves Oklahoma i16-14 on the season. The Lady Sooners are 25-17 all-time in the Big 12 Championship.

All that’s left now is the week-long wait for what might or might not be a spot in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship. The Sooners have appeared in 18 consecutive NCAA Women’s Tournaments.

The answer will come on March 12, when the bracket for the NCAA Women’s Tournament will be revealed.
