Silly Sooner penalties will cut twice as deep in November

We’ve said it before – as soon as last week – but it bears repeating: Oklahoma continues to hurt itself with unnecessary, untimely penalties. The Sooners were flagged seven times in the Texas Tech game for 94 yards, including a couple of personal foul calls and a roughing-the-passer infraction. That’s 45 yards in penalties right there.

Up to this point, Oklahoma has gotten by giving up more penalty yards than its opponents, but that won’t be the case if the Sooners continue to shoot themselves in the foot against the better teams in the conference. OU cannot afford to help out Oklahoma State and TCU, both of which, like the Sooners, have lost just once this season and are less penalty prone than Oklahoma.

The Ohio State game, which was dominated by the Sooners, is the only game this season the opponent has lost more yardage to penalties than OU.
