The OU run game is back at full strength

The return of sophomore running back Abdul Adams from injury, gives Baker Mayfield and the nation’s No. 1 offense its full complement of weapons. Adams, who missed the Sooners’ last two games, ran for 95 yards on 10 carries, his third game in 2017 with more than 90 yards rushing.

For a second consecutive week, redshirt sophomore Rodney Anderson led OU in rushing with a career-high 181 yards and a 7.5-yards-per-carry average. He had 147 yards in the game a week ago at Kansas State.

The combination of Anderson, who earned his first start of the season on Saturday, and Adams was so dynamic against Texas Tech that freshman Trey Sermon, the Sooners’ leading rusher on the season (494 yards), did not get a single carry in the game.

Having a healthy trio of running backs the caliber of Adams, Anderson and Sermon forces opposing teams to pay attention to OU’s ability to run the football, which also makes the Sooners that much more dangerous when they go to the Air Raid for large chunks of real estate.
