The over/under on last year’s game between Oklahoma and Texas Tech was in the stratosphere, with the two schools wearing down the scoreboard by putting up a combined 125 points in just a seven-point game won by the Sooners, 66-59.

Both teams are fully capable of putting up that many points again this season (Texas Tech has scored 50 or more points three times in seven games in 2017, and the Sooners have gone above 50 points twice this season), but I would be surprised to see either team exceed 50 points on Saturday.

It’s not so much that the defenses are that much better, but I believe we are apt to see more deliberate offensive drives that take more time off the clock and fewer 40- and 50-yard scoring plays, which we saw six of in the high-scoring affair a year ago.

Look for this year’s combined points to be somewhere in the 70s, a far cry from that defensive masterpiece we witnessed last season when these two teams squared off.
