Sophomore defensive back Jordan Parker

Defensive coordinator Mike Stoops and defensive backs coach Kerry Cooks used a revolving-door approach last season to filling the cornerback spot opposite of Steven Parker in the OU secondary.

One of the last players they rotated in a year ago to shore up that week link at the back end of the Sooner defense was freshman Jordan Parker. Parker made his collegiate debut in the Texas game last season. He made four solo tackles in that game and earned his first start in a Sooner uniform the following week at home against Kansas State.

Parker saw action in 10 games as a freshman in 2016 and started the final eight games of the season. As I wrote in an earlier piece this summer, it is no coincidence that the Sooner defense in the secondary got much better in the latter part of the season with Parker manning the other cornerback position.

Only a sophomore this season, Parker is still getting better, and his presence in the Sooner secondary is one of the reason’s college football analyst and publisher of the eponymous College Football Preview publication ranks the Oklahoma defensive backs as one of the 15 best in the country in 2017.
