Some of the biggest names in major college athletics are truly great in only one, or if they’re really lucky two, athletic disciplines a year. We’re taking national championship level. Oklahoma Sooner sports programs have been truly blessed in 2016-17 to have achieved greatness at the highest level across several athletic programs outside of the school’s standard flag bearer when it comes to national sports prominence: Oklahoma football.

Sooner football – without question OU’s signature sport -l got off to rocky start by historical OU standards, losing two of its first three games in 2016. But the OU gridiron warriors followed that up with 10 consecutive wins. They ran the table in the Big 12, going a perfect 9-0, to claim a second consecutive Big 12 championship.

And they weren’t done after claiming the conference championship – No. 10 under Bob Stoops. As the Big 12’s conference champion, the Sooners were awarded a spot opposite Auburn, the No. 2 team in the SEC, in the Sugar Bowl. Oklahoma won that showdown going away, 35-19.

Those 10 consecutive wins to close out the 2017 season give the Sooners the longest active win streak among Power Five teams.

Football wasn’t the only Sooner sport to end its season on a spectacular high, though.

Late winter and spring sports hit the jackpot at Oklahoma as far as sports supremacy goes.
