The men’s Oklahoma golf team remains in second position, but now tied with two other schools, after 54 holes in the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.
The Sooners, the No. 17 overall seed, carded their third consecutive sub-par round on Sunday firing a four-under-par score of 284 in Sunday’s third round and a 54-hole team score of 847, tied with UNLV and USC for third place heading into the final round of team stroke play on Monday.
Senior Max McGreevy, who shot a team-low three-under-par 69 in the first round, was also the team medalist in Sunday’s third round with a four-under 68. Blaine Hall shot 70, Grant Hirschman an even-par 72 and Rylee Reinertson 74.
Bad Dalke, who shot back-to-back scores of two-under 70 over the first two rounds, bloomed to seven-over 79 on Sunday, with four bogeys, two double bogeys and just one birdie..
The 30-team field that advanced out of NCAA regional competition has been cut down to 15 for the final round of stroke play on Monday. On Tuesday, only the top eight teams will move forward and compete in a match-play format.
McGreevy leads the Sooners after 54 holes with a three-round score of seven-under 209. That is tied for sixth place on the individual leaderboard with golfers from three other schools.
Hale is at five-over 211 after three rounds, tied for 17th.
Oklahoma finished eighth in the stroke-play portion of the NCAA Championship a year ago and advanced to match play, where the Sooners were defeated by eventual national runner-up Texas in the quarterfinal round.
Three Big 12 schools join Oklahoma in the field of 15 for the fourth and final round of stroke play: Oklahoma State, the No. 3 overall seed, is in sixth place (852), Baylor is tied for seventh (855) and five-time defending Big 12 champion Texas is 11th (859).
