Sooner softball continued on its torrid pace over the weekend, sweeping its second straight Big 12 series with a 6-0 shutout of Texas in the series finale on Sunday, making it 10 consecutive wins over the archrival Longhorns.

Besides the 10 straight victories over the Longhorns, Oklahoma increased its consecutive-game win streak to 21 against Big 12 opponents. The 10-game win streak over Texas is the longest by either team in the 61-game history of the rivalry. During that span, Oklahoma has outscored the Longhorns 54-18.

The Sooners failed to score in the opening frame for the first time in 10 games, but they exploded for five in the second, which turned out to be more than enough to ensure the victory.

OU is now 8-0 in road games this season and has won 18 consecutive road contests dating back to last season.

The defending national-champion Sooners are 6-0 in Big 12 play this season, tied with Oklahoma State at the top of the conference standings. It is the fourth time in the past five seasons, that the Sooners have begun league play with six consecutive wins.

Texas fell to 0-6 in Big 12 play, having been swept by the two Oklahoma schools in its first two conference series.

Junior Paige Lowary, who recorded the save in OU’s 3-1 victory in game two of the series, got the call as the starter in the series finale and went five and a third innings to earn her ninth win of the year with just one loss. Lowary gave up no runs and five hits and struck out six. She has allowed just one run in her last 28 innings for a spectacular 0.35 earned run average.

Sophomore first baseman Shay Knighton went two for two at the plate in Sunday’s Sooner win and was five for eight over the three games, scoring two runs and contributing a double, a home run, walked three times and drove in five runs. She has hit safely in six consecutive games and has driven in a run in 11 straight games.

Now 35-7 for the season, Oklahoma is off until Thursday, when the Sooners being a three-game road series with Kansas.
