Oklahoma Football: Notable Numbers From OU’s Bedlam Win

The Oklahoma football win over Oklahoma State over the weekend on a dreary Bedlam Saturday was the Sooners 871st victory all-time, 86th over their in-state rivals and awarded them their 10th Big 12 championship and 50th postseason bowl appearance.
Here are a dozen more notable numbers from Oklahoma’s 38-20 win over the Cowboys in the 2016 regular-season finale:
.918 – Oklahoma’s home winning percentage (101-9) in 18 seasons under head coach Bob Stoops. That is the best in the nation over that time frame. Ohio State is second with a home winning percentage of .882 over the last 18 seasons.
2 – Two of Oklahoma’s five touchdowns against Oklahoma State on Saturday were 40 yards or longer, and the Sooners just missed a third when Dimitri Flowers caught a 67-yard pass from Baker Mayfield and was stopped on the two-yard line. The Sooners have 20 touchdowns of 40 yards or greater this season. That is the third most among all FBS teams in the last 15 seasons.
4 – Saturday’s Bedlam game was the fourth time in the long history of this rivalry series that both teams had been ranked in the top 11 of the Associated Press poll.
4 – The victory over Oklahoma State gave OU its second consecutive Big 12 Conference championship and its 10th in the 21-year history of the conference. It is the fourth time Oklahoma has gone undefeated in Big 12 play (2000, 2003 and 2004).
9 – Linebacker Ogbonnia “Obo” Okoronkwo picked up his eighth and ninth sacks of the season on Saturday. That ties him with Eric Striker for the most sacks in a single-season by an OU linebacker.
10 – Quarterback Baker Mayfield had three touchdown passes in the Sooners’ Big 12 title-clinching win over Oklahoma State. He has accounted for three or more touchdowns in 10 of OU’s 12 games this season.
16 – The Sooners’ leading receiver this season, Dede Westbrook, played only a quarter and a half on Saturday before being forced to leave the game with apparent concussion symptoms. Even in that short amount of time, however, the senior wide receiver caught four passes for 111 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown catch was a 69-yarder was his 16th touchdown catch of the season, a new Oklahoma single-season record.
20 – Points below their season scoring average that the Sooners’ defense held the Oklahoma State offense on Saturday. The Cowboys came into the game ranked 14th nationally in scoring offense (40.4 points per game).
82 – Yards remaining for junior running back Samaje Perine to equal the 4,118 career rushing yards of Billy Sims, who holds the Oklahoma career rushing record. Perine rushed for 239 yards on 37 carries against the Cowboys on Saturday.
201 – Joe Mixon had 201 all-purpose yards in the Oklahoma win on Saturday, giving him 2,151 for the season. Mixon is just the fourth Sooner to go over the 2,000-yard mark in all purpose yards in a single season (DeMarco Murray, Quentin Griffin and Greg Pruitt are the others).
521 – Rushing yards by Samaje Perine in three career games against Oklahoma State.
87,527 – The attendance at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium for Saturday’s de facto Big 12 championship game. That is the second largest crowd in the facility’s 93-year history and was the 110th consecutive sellout in the Bob Stoops’ era, which encompasses 18 seasons.
