OU Men’s Tennis Plays for National Championship a Third Straight Season
For the third year in a row, the Oklahoma men’s tennis team played for the NCAA Tennis Championship, but again the Sooners came up just short.
The 11th-ranked Sooners edged Georgia 4-3 in the national semifinals in April in Tulsa, Okla., and moved on to face No. 1 Virginia for the championship for the second consecutive year. The Cavaliers retained their NCAA team title, beating the Sooners 4-1. That was the same score by which Oklahoma lost to Virginia in the championship final the year before.
The Oklahoma men’s team also played for the national championship in tennis in 2014, losing that year to No. 1 USC.
The Sooner men finished with a 29-3 overall record in 2016, the best in program history.
