Baker Mayfield Is Back in the Heisman Conversation

Largely due to Oklahoma’s slow start, Baker Mayfield was not in the Heisman conversation at all to begin the season. Lately, however, Mayfield has put together a stellar string of games, punctuated by the 545 yard, seven-touchdown explosion against Texas Tech. Suddenly, the Sooner gunslinger is right back in the Heisman discussion.

Since the TCU game, Mayfield has passed for 1,555 yards and 16 touchdowns, while only  throwing three interceptions. During that span, Mayfield is averaging 12 yards per attempt and an absolutely torrid 212 passer rating. This trend is certain to continue against hapless Kansas, the next game on the Sooner schedule.

If Mayfield continues his hot streak, his chances to get an invite to New York in December will be looking pretty solid. Perhaps most importantly,  Oklahoma’s odds of capturing another Big 12 title will be greatly enhanced if Mayfield continues to light it up through November.
