We can all agree that the most important number to come out of Week 5 Football Saturday last weekend as far as OU football fans are concerned was the final tally on the scoreboard at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Ft. Worth that read: Sooners 52, Horned Frogs 46.

A close encounter it was not, except for the final 15 minutes of play. TCU dominated the opening quarter, and it looked as if the Horned Frogs were going to run away an hide, striking fast and often in running up a 21-7 advantage after the opening 15 minutes.

For the next two quarters, the tide turned completely, with Oklahoma accounting for 42 of the next 45 points in rolling up a 25-point advantage at 49-24.

Then came another about face, as the Horned Frogs scored 22 unanswered points to cut the OU advantage to a mere three points with better than five minutes left on the clock.

The Sooners would hold on from there, but it wasn’t without much trepidation on the part of nervous Oklahoma fans.

Those were the numbers that truly matter, but not the only noteworthy numbers that came out of the game. Here are a dozen more you might find compelling:

1 – Safety Steven Parker recorded Oklahoma’s first pass interception of the season when he picked off a pass from TCU quarterback Kenny Hill early in the first quarter. The interception turned over the ball to the Sooners on the TCU 18-yard line and set up OU’s first touchdown in the game.

2 – For the second time as a Sooner, quarterback Baker Mayfield accounted for multiple touchdowns rushing and passing. He had two of each against TCU on Saturday.

6 – The victory on Saturday gives Oklahoma 11 in the 16 games all-time with TCU. The two schools have played seven times at TCU, with the Sooners winning six of them.

6.85 – Average yards per play by both teams combined in 152 total offensive plays (78 by Oklahoma; 74 by TCU).

8 – In 11 combined trips inside the Red Zone in Saturday’s game, Oklahoma and TCU cashed in 10 of the 11 Red Zone chances. Eight of those ten scores were touchdowns (5 of 7 for OU and 3 of 4 for TCU).

22 – TCU scored 22 fourth-quarter points despite possessing the ball for just five minutes in the final 15 minutes of play.

41 Samaje Perine’s two rushing touchdowns on Saturday gives him 41 in his Oklahoma career. That places him sixth on the OU career rushing TDs list, tied with Adrian Peterson.

98 – Total points scored by Oklahoma and TCU in Saturday’s game. That is the most points scored in the 16 games all-time between these two schools. Both teams surpassed the previous high-water mark by either team in the series. The previous high by either team was 35 by Oklahoma, accomplished in two previous meetings.

113 – Oklahoma has won 113 games against Big 12 opponents since Bob Stoops became the head coach in 1999. The school with the next most wins during that time frame is Texas with 101.

174 – TCU produced 174 of its 514 yards of total offense in the game in the first quarter, averaging almost 10-yards per play.

210 – Pass receiving yards by Taj Williams of TCU on five catches, including touchdown catches of 64 and 74 yards within a nine-minute stretch in the fourth quarter.

221 – All-purpose yards by OU’s Joe Mixon (105 rushing, 70 receiving and 46 in kick returns).
