Dec. 4, 2010 – Oklahoma 23, Nebraska 20

It was a classic rivalry rematch in what would be the final season for the Big 12 championship game and the final season for Nebraska as a member of the Big 12 Conference.

The two teams were nationally ranked – Oklahoma at No. 9 and Nebraska at 13 – and champions of their respective divisions in the conference.

Nebraska scored the first 17 points in the game, placing the Sooners in a deep hole early. The Sooners finally woke up offensively in the second quarter. Landry Jones hit wide receiver Kenny Stills on a 49-yard scoring pass, and OU drove 71 yards on its next possession before having to settle for a 26-yard field goal from Jimmy Stevens.

Oklahoma caught two big breaks in the second quarter. With Nebraska driving and facing a third-and-goal situation from the OU 8-yard line, Sooner linebacker Travis Lewis intercepted a pass from Husker quarterback Taylor Martinez in the end zone, snuffing out the scoring opportunity. Not very long thereafter, Lewis recovered a fumble by Nebraska’s Roy Helu, turning over the ball to the Sooners on the Husker 31. Two plays later, Jones scored on a 1-yard run to tie the game.

Nebraska’s Alex Henery booted a 42-yard field goal as time was expiring in the half to put the Huskers up by three, 20-17, at the break.

That would be the final points of the game for the Cornhuskers. Oklahoma would hold Nebraska to 293 yards of offense for the game, and 127 of those yards came on just three plays in the first half.

The Sooners got third- and fourth-quarter field goals from Stevens, the game-winner coming at the 8:28 mark in the fourth. OU held on from there for a 23-20 victory and its seventh Big 12 title in 15 seasons.

The Oklahoma defense recorded seven sacks in the game to go with three fumble recoveries and one interception.
