Eduardo Najera (1996-2000), Fourth Team Forward
Eduardo Najera played for Oklahoma between 1996 and 2000. Three of those teams won 20-plus games, and the Sooners went to the NCAA Tournament all four seasons he was there. Najera, born and raised in Mexico, was the team’s leading scorer his junior and senior seasons. He averaged 18.4 points and nine rebounds per game his final season at Oklahoma.
Najera finished his collegiate career in the Sooner all-time top-10 in nine different statistical categories.
The 6-8 Najera was drafted in the second round of the 2000 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets, the first Mexican player to be drafted. He never played for Houston, though, making his professional debut with the Dallas Mavericks.
Najera played for 12 seasons in the NBA with five different teams. His final professional season as a player was in 2011-12 with the Charlotte Bobcats.
He is currently a scout with the NBA Dallas Mavericks, with whom he played in five of his 12 pro seasons.
