The sophomore running back is one of three Sooners who are candidates for three national awards this coming season. Perine set a new single-game NCAA record last season with a record 427 yards in a win over Kansas.

Maxwell Award – One of the oldest and most prized college football awards. First presented in 1937, the Maxwell Award recognizes the Player of the Year in college football. Two Oklahoma Sooners have won this award in the past: wide receiver Tommy McDonald (1956) and quarterback Jason White (2004).

Doak Walker Award – Named in honor of the three-time SMU All-American, the Doak Walker Award is presented every year to the best running back in college football. It is the only major collegiate award that requires that all candidates are in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students in the same class. No Oklahoma running back has ever won this award.

Walter Camp Trophy – This annual award is presented to the outstanding player of the year in college football. The recipient has exemplified the qualities of self-discipline, unselfish team play, desire to excel, mature judgment and respect for leadership. Steve Owens (1969), Billy Sims (1978) and Josh Heupel (2000) are past winners of the Walter Camp Trophy.
