October 3: The Mountaineers Come Calling

 Why OU Might Win

Last season, OU won a back and forth, spirited affair in Morgantown, mostly on the heels of Samaje Perine’s outstanding running. Quarterback Clint Trickett kept the Mountaineers within striking distance with a 376 yard, 2 TD passing performance. Kevin White had an outstanding outing against the Sooners, catching ten passes for 173 yards and a score in a losing effort.

Alas for the Mountaineers, they get OU in Norman in 2015 and both Trickett and White are gone. Dana Holgorsen is an excellent offensive mind who will surely have some tricks up his sleeve, but at the end of the day an improved Oklahoma offense playing at home and looking to restore its Big 12 winning ways will be too much for the Mountaineers to overcome.

Why OU Might Lose

This one’s tough to call against the Sooners, but let’s just say that perhaps, after an open date the prior weekend, OU comes out flat and unprepared. Last season, Oklahoma lost three games at home, so the Sooners’ aura of home field invincibility took a beating in 2014.

West Virginia can be a tough team to play, and could catch an uninspired OU team flat-footed. Add one or two turnovers going West Virginia’s way, and the Mountaineers could shock the Sooners in Norman.

Interesting Fact

West Virginia has been playing football for 103 years and accumulated a 629-420-41 record during that span. But, surprisingly, the Mountaineers have never won nor claimed a national title.
