Sept. 19: The Hurricanes Blow Into Norman

 Why OU Might Win

Tulsa comes into Norman with a new coach, former Baylor OC Philip Montgomery. So, there’s no doubt Montgomery will have the Golden Hurricane ready to play and perhaps throw in a few wrinkles to catch the Sooners off-guard. But again, this is a case of a far too wide talent gap for Tulsa to overcome.

Tulsa usually plays the Sooners tough, but as is frequently the case, Oklahoma simply has too much talent all over the field. The Sooners will pull away decisively from a spirited Tulsa team and get the win in Norman.

Why Tulsa Might Win

As with the Akron Zips’ game, there are very few realistic scenarios under which the Golden Hurricane are able to notch a victory over Oklahoma. A critical injury to a key Sooner? A hangover from a Sooner loss to Tennessee the prior week? Overconfidence and sloppy play following an OU victory over Tennessee?

Philip Montgomery will have Tulsa ready to play, and there’s even a chance they could hang around in this game. If that happens, then all it takes is one or two lucky breaks for Tulsa to shock OU in Norman. But most likely, this scenario is in the realm of movie fiction.

Interesting Fact

At one time, Tulsa’s team name was the “Golden Tornadoes”. But, someone pointed out Georgia Tech had adopted that name already, so the name was changed to Golden Hurricane.
