Sooners’ 2015 Football Schedule: Breaking Down the Non-Conference Slate

2 of 13

Sept. 5: The Zips Come to Norman

 Why OU Might Win

Is there any doubt? While Akron is a respectable team, the talent chasm between the Zips and the Sooners is simply to wide for Akron to overcome. This game is nothing more than a scheduling cupcake, a tune-up for the tussle with Tennessee in Week 2. This one will be a runaway for the Sooners. Plus, the gang from Akron will be playing before a larger opposing crowd than the Zips will have rooting for them at home in Akron the entire season season combined.

Why OU Might Lose

Unless the entire Oklahoma football team is kidnapped and impostors take the field, there is no conceivable scenario under which Akron wins this game. No disrespect to the Zips, who will get a nice trip to Norman, a paycheck for their trouble, and a “zip” in the win column.

Interesting Fact

John Heisman – yep, that’s the guy for whom the award is named – coached Akron (then called Buchtel College) from 1893 to 1894.
