November 7: The Cyclones Come to Town

 Why OU Might Win

This is another prediction that’s fairly easy: Last season, Iowa State was dead last in the Big 12 with an 0-9 conference record (2-10 overall). This was a significant step back for Paul Rhoades’ program, which had been showing signs of improvement.

There is no reason to believe Iowa State will improve dramatically enough to give the Sooners any significant scare at home. Oklahoma will roll in this game as the Sooners tune up for the toughest stretch of the season during the three weeks following the Iowa State game.

Why OU Might Lose

About the only reasonable scenario for a Cyclones victory in Norman consists of a distracted Oklahoma team looking ahead to the contest with Baylor the following week in Waco. But, even a distracted OU team has way too much of a talent edge on the Cyclones to lose this game.

Interesting Fact

The last time Iowa State beat Oklahoma was a 33-31 victory over the Sooners in Norman (and yes, back during the cursed 90’s – 1990 to be exact). Prior to that, there was a 7-7 tie in 1981. Iowa State did enjoy a two-game winning streak over the Sooners in 1960 and again the following year.
